Hotel Byzantion is located down the road to the Byzantine town of Mistras, a short drive from the Archaeological Site. It features rooms with spectacular views of ancient Mistras and Mount Taygetos.
This small luxury hotel, built in 1850 as the center of society, stands proudly under the ragged shadow of Mount Taygetos.

Maria the manager was the perfect hostess and made amazing breakfasts. She was very helpful in guiding us to dining locations. The room was very comfortable and the garden was beautiful.

Beautiful location. Restaurant was delicious for dinner and breakfast. Room comfortable and clean. The decor was very cottage-like and cozy. Close to hiking trails. If we had more time, we would have hiked the 1.5 hour trail to the Mystras site.

This was my fourth night in Greece, but the first place with a normal shower. Everything is relative.

I could happily stay longer in the superb hotel, but mainly there is one sight to see in Mystras - the site of the old Byzantine city.
We spent longer there than anticipated; and if we had more time and energy we could have spent the entire day.
Drive to the top; see the citadel and the churches at the top. Drive to the bottom to see the rest of the site.
There is good information at the site, but prepare by reading up ahead and ideally have a good guidebook to make clear what to see at the site.

The Mystras Archeological Site is an extraordinary collection of Byzantine churches and ruins, built into and atop a steep mountain. Allow at least two hours and be prepared for lots of walking on slippery, uneven, steep surfaces. Worth it!
Tip: easy to park in Mystras main square, with multiple tavernas to choose from for lunch or dinner.

It's a small town or you can even call it a village.
It's a small town or you can even call it a village. Coffee drinks and food can be found in the center square of that village. Ideal location to visit the famous Castle city of Mystras and after that, regroup and continue your journey. If i may suggest, the route from there to Kalamata through Taygetos mountain (EO82) is amazing...

I am very sorry for the CONFUSION in my review particualrly of this place. UNFORTUNATELY we could only spend ONE night at this magical and extraordinary PYRGOS OF MYSTRA. It was one of the most memorable places I have stayed in. Our host MARIA excels in her efficiency and kindness. The whole place has an aura of serenity and peace. It is no doubt due to the staff but also the surroundings: a profusion of orange and lemon trees, paerfumed roses and a beautifully landscaped garden. The room is not only beautiful but extremely well equipped and it was the best shower during my trip to Greece! We really received the royal treatment and in the magnificent dining room we were served a most delicious breakfast. I was so very sorry to leave the place the next morning and I woud recommend, without any hesitation, this particular hotel and make sure that you can spend MORE than only one night there. Our fondest appreciation to Maria.

Lovely quaint village within walking distance of the ancient archaeological sites, which are stunning.
It’s all very hilly to take a taxi to the top gate of the site if you’re feeling lazy - then it’s just up to the castle and then it’s all downhill back through the site and down into town

An amazing ruined city - great for anyone interested in history. We started at the top, walking up to the fortress then down through the city . We did not move our car as some tourist books recommend. The restaurant is outside the site but tickets are valid all day so no problem returning to walk back up - recommend this as you see things from a different perspective going in the opposite direction. There are sufficient information boards. Be aware there is only one toilet on site. Good shoes are a must - these are ruins! Highly recommend.
The breakfast was wonderful, the personal was warm and welcoming, the room beautiful and the location was absolutely amazing ! We should have stayed an extra night, because it was everything and more than we had hoped. Both the jacuzzi and the fireplace made for very romantic evenings and the garden and balcony with breakfast made for wonderful slow mornings. Having a great interest in the mystras ruins and having them just a small walk away was perfect for us - we hope to come back one day when the palace has been completed in restoration!
This is an absolutely lovely property in the mountains near Mystras. we were there in late November so it was very quiet. You were greeted with a homemade wine cordial and things just continue from there. There’s wonderful service,, great recommendations for things to do in the area, and a spot itself is beautiful you could just stay there. Breakfast, which is phenomenal and includes many homemade items, is provided within the cost of your room. The views are phenomenal down into the valley. Would stay again and longer
The hotel is well situated in the centre of Mystras village and one kilometre from the entrance to the Byzantian castle ruins . The owner was helpful and showed us the room and parking , he also manages the restuarant with his wife and teenage children .Our room was behind the main building on the ground floor with a great view of the castle ,a balcony and parking outside . Shower worked well, and beds were comfortable . The owner offered us a lift up to the castle entrance and we walked down.
the hotel was close to the castle of mystras and eventhough it was located at the main street and our room was on the streetside you could barely hear the noice coming from the street. The swimmingpool had a nice little garden around it and was great after a long day of walking around. There is plenty of parking space to park your car right next to the hotel. The beds were very comfy and the room itself was spatious and clean.
Excellent place to stay. Staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly, it was easy to find and park at, the facilities are beautiful. Property was beautifully kept and clean. Location is great just between Mystras and the surrounding villages and the town of Sparti. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of hot food, fruits, breads, marmelades, desserts. Easily a top choice to stay at if you're traveling in Lakonia.
The hotel is beautifully situated right in the centre of Mystras. We first visited just after it opened several years ago and it was lovely this time to see how the trees and shrubs have grown up, making the hotel blend beautifully with the landscape. The bedrooms were very comfortable with great beds and a fabulous shower. The spa was very welcoming and the breakfast ample and tasty.
Great location for visiting Mystras, offers fantastic views of Mystras castle in the hill and all over the wide valley up to Sparta. The accommodation is traditional but offers every convenience and is decorated to the highest standard and the owner is very friendly and hospitable.
The house was definitely one of the most authentic, and beautiful ones of our trip in Greece.
little apartments in seperate houses with a swimming pool in the center. we got upgraded to a junior suite so we had a lot of space. breakfast was a buffet with a wide selection of warm and cold foods, some typical greek items. beds were comfortable, a/c was working. parking across the hotel along a quiet street.
The flat is located within walking distance of restaurants and bars in the village of Mystras and has a fabulous view of Mystras from the terrace. Tacis and Eka are charming and very helpful. The flat is well equipped with everything you could need. I highly recommend it.
A very nice place to stay if you're planning on visiting the ruins at Mystras (which you definitely should). The room was very nicely appointed with a very large and comfortable bed. The bathroom and shower were also very nice with a luxurious boutique feel.
Brand new equipment and facilities, very clean spaces and friendly stuff. Of course the name of the place "Castle View" is exactly what you see from the window, the view of the Byzantine castle city of Mystras is extraordinary.
Breakfast is great! Home made with fresh local products.
Maria the manger give us many info about Mistra
