To me, Symonds Yat and the entire Forest of Dean is still such an under-rated and under-valued area. It is such a beautiful place of natural beauty; if you love birds, trees, being out in nature - this place has it all. You can easily get off the beaten path and avoid the more well-known spots (the sculpture trail gets busy at weekends). It's easy to just lose yourself here and just 'be'. For those who love kayaking & canoeing, there's a ton of outdoor places to get into the water. For camper van owners, this place is a wee slice of heaven and, if you get into the heart of the forest, the relatively low light pollution makes from some spectacular star-gazing on clear nights. Enjoy!

A tranquil location in one of the most beautiful areas of the country. Good food is available at the Saracen's head but make sure you book. The narrow lanes leading to the village can be a bit tricky so take your time. It's probably worth arriving fairly early as it becomes very busy during peak periods.

Very scenic area centred on the River Wye with lots of walking routes, though some were muddy in places. We visited after a wet spell of autumn weather and the small ferry across the river was not running, meaning a long walk to the only river crossing in the area, but great views and good for serious walkers.

This was not our first stay at Royal Lodge. The location is perfect, overlooking Symonds Yat on the Wye. The staff are wonderful and provide great service. Our room was spacious and quiet and had views over the river, we would definitely book the same room again. We ate in the dining room on Saturday evening and our food was wonderful. They have responded to previous feedback and now have an unobtrusive music track playing to add a little to the atmosphere of their large dining room. Tables were spaced widely enough to allow some privacy.

Love the fact that this hotel is situated riverside and that it is not too modern inside. Although a limited vegan dinner and breakfast menu, the chef was very happy to provide a vegan starter (tomato soup) and also a vegan breakfast of avocado on toast with tomatoes. Both of these should be on the menu. Also, we came down too early for breakfast but the staff member on duty was more than happy to serve us as 0800 instead of 0830.

The cottage is very well appointed with every thing we needed and the location is perfect with just a short walk to the local pub at the centre of Symonds Yat. It is a lovely quiet spot and excellent for walking along the river and taking in the fresh air. The two rope ferries are great fun and easy to get across to the other bank where an equally pleasant pub awaits. Happy time spent there

Love the location, very relaxing to listen to the birds singing and the river Wye flowing by outside our bedroom window. Ideal location for a walk to Symonds Yat or through the forest along the river bank. Claire and John are wonderful hosts, very accommodating and knowledgeable on local geography, nothing is too much trouble. We can’t wait to return.

It was so peaceful and relaxing at Ye Old Ferrie Inn. The binoculars available in my room and the cookies were wonderful touches. Every staff member I spoke with was helpful and pleasant. I felt like everyone was trying to make me feel at home. And the food was amazing!!! I hope I get to stay for multiple nights sometime in the near future.

The location was excellent, albeit the drive down was exciting. The food was excellent and exceedingly plentiful, almost too large. The Oak Suite was definitely the best choice of room. It was large and comfortable. In these Covid days the hotel had taken full precautions to keep the guests safe.
