We went to Besancon to visit a friend and had only time for a short walk around the city. We visited Victor Hugo's birthplace which was very informative, and we were delighted to see some Roman ruins preserved in the center of the city. We didn't have time to visit the museum of the Resistance and would very much like to visit it on our next trip there.

Besancon is a nice small French town.
Besancon is a nice small French town. It has a couple things to do in the city, but I feel like the better ones are the Citadelle and parts outside of the city. But you need a vehicle to better reach outside.
I stayed 2 nights during January, it was cold and a bit windy, so going to a higher place was out of the question.
Th Time Museum and Victor Hugo's birthplace are pretty cool to visit and not expensive.
Lastly, I felt that people in Besancon were very friendly.

The nature is nice.
The nature is nice. You can make different walks in and around the town.
The busconnection is perfect en cheap. So you can leave the car at the hotel. You don't have to look for a parking near the town.
There are more museums than we aspected. Only the museum of resistance was closed.

In summer not all restaurants are open for business.
In summer not all restaurants are open for business. So it is wise to make reservations because it is busy. There is not a lot of trees, flowers, parks so the city looks a bit "stoney" / not romantic. The citadel is nice to visit though with children.

Tiny place and the shower was blocked, so we didn't use it.
Tiny place and the shower was blocked, so we didn't use it. It is a good choice for an emergency stop while traveling (in my case, from Germany to France) because of the location. I think they could do better.

Wished we could have stayed longer to visit Besancon!
Wished we could have stayed longer to visit Besancon! We only stopped overnight on our way back to Germany but saw the Citadelle lit up at night and had a 20min wander in the morning before heading out. The city looked really interesting to visit and wander around for at least a full day or two. Might look into going back through in the future to see more of it.
The hotel is tucked away in the old city with a nice quiet garden where you can have coffee or something else served. The restaurant was overbooked but the staff suggested 4-5 places in walking distance and made a reservation on the one we chose. Breakfast was very nice not too many choices but everything is good quality. We did not need anything else. The interior has been nicely decorated using few colors (a little too dark color tone perhaps). It makes you feel calm immediately once you arrive.
Sadly my room was still dirty from the guest before me, wet towels in the bathroom floor and the bed was not made , dirty sheets and Blankets, I stayed just because I was traveling with my children and it was late at night. If I had arrived earlier I was going to complain and fo to the hotel next door. I always stayed in the IBIS chain but after this experience, I don't think so
The Hotel Le Sauvage is in a beautiful building with great facilities including onsite restaurant with excellent breakfast and a nice bar.
The staff were friendly and professional throughout and we could not have asked for better service.
The position is with in easy reach of the old town as well as the citadel.
I loved the location and the bathroom and bedroom were spacious. The bed was very comfortable with a nice firm mattress...a firm mattress is important for me. I thought this hotel had a bit of personality/character...and the town of Besançon certainly did. Absolutely love this city!
Directions to the hotel where keys need to be fetched/check-in could be more clear. I walked up and down the road (from the apartments) as I did not think it was going to be that far down the road to Hotel Sauvage. Maybe specific directions could be indicated.
The apartment was absolutely beautiful, spacious and clean!
The girls were so helpful and communication was top notch!
The location is excellent, right downtown yet in a quiet street.
We absolutely loved it! thank you so much!
I booked the hotel as an overnight stop on my road trip to Spain. I got a nice room with all the stuff I needed. The breakfast was alright, I was only surprised by a lack of any vegetables whatsoever which would be nice.
Very spacious, clean, and distinguished by having a small two-person sauna which works well. modern kitchen, and a great shower. Close to the route up the citadel, the time museum, Victor Hugo museum, and bus routes.
Great hotel in a great location. Easy to access by car and carpark was great. Then easy to access the City.
Pool and Spa was great, It was included in our price as we booked in February.
Breakfast was very good.
Good location for a break in the journey south. Selection of restaurants in walkable distance. Hotel restaurant wasn't open in evening but breakfast was a very good buffet and good value. Lots of parking space.
The hotel was conveniently located for our journey. Our room and bathroom were spacious and breakfast offered a large number of options including pastries, meats, cheeses and fruit.
The location was incredible, it was so easy to access to transportation, staff was so kind and the room was quite large comparing to another Ibis Hotels.
