Breath-taking beauty in the lush gardens with the sounds of the river in the backgroud, Herbie's gracious hospitality was a perfect introduction to our Costa Rican vacation. We expected nothing and got: everything! Herbie's cabins and house are BEAUTIFUL, welcoming and comfortable! We only spent one night on the way up north but actually would have loved to stay longer! The food was delicious and Herbie was the nicest host. Such an unexpected gem in Guapiles, we would love to go back one day!
We needed a place for a quick stop on our way from the Caribbean to San Jose for a flight. This hotel was conveniently located halfway through our drive and was just what we needed for a quick stay. We enjoyed a jacuzzi tub in our room, and dinner and breakfast at the onsite restaurant was tasty and very affordable.

Guapiles is not a tourist town, but it is a good place to stop for a rest while passing through. The del Tropico is much the same. It is a perfectly adequate place for a rest but not more.
This is a basic hotel and perfect if you want to stop off on route. this is not a hotel for staying in long term as the restaurant is poor and there is nothing in the vicinity.
