San Gil was a really enjoyable town despite not doing adventure tours. We loved the park for the birds and red squirrels. The town square was interesting to sit, with good restaurants and bars nearby.

San Gil is very turistic and influenced by that. Excellent opportunities for recreation and extreme sports, but the horrid traffic can impact travel. The main route from Bogota' to Bucaramanga goes right through it and can really congest the streets. These are old "horse" cart roads in town and the traffic can be "impressive" and difficult to manage. Quaint charm with amenities, a commercial mall and plenty of food and drink around the central park.

San Gil as a town is not particularly interesting.
San Gil as a town is not particularly interesting. It's for the adventure activities that one comes. We went rafting on Río Suárez with Colombia Rafting Expediciones and I can only recommend them - professional, well-organised team that guides you through the Class 5 rapids while keeping safety always in mind.

We were only here for a day. We went rafting on the river, and visited El Parque Natural Gallineral. Pretty park and pretty river. I'm sure there is more to do in San Gil, but that's all we had time for.

The area around San Gil is great for just about everything. We had a car so we were able to tour the roads in and around San Gil and it is beautiful, mountainous country. The Cuevas del Vacas is a must see but not for the faint of heart ( we are part of the over 60 crowd and thoroughly enjoyed it)
Probably the best hostel we have been from Chile to Panama! Hospitable atmosphere and incredibly nice and helpfull owner Johana with her family made our stay so nice! (ask her about Tejo game!) The room was well equiped, clean and comfortable. It could be seen the owners put significant amount of effort into making the place cozy and clean! Also the shared areas were really aesthetic and pleasant to hang out in. Location is very central as well. We will deffinitely come back if were in San Gil again! Gracias por todo, Johana!
Breakfast was not included. However, there was a really good restaurant in 'La Isla' area around the corner. I recommend Chiflas! Delicious and generous amount!
Our host, Wilmer, went out of his way to make us feel at home. He was genuinely very helpful from check in to check out.
The apartment building is on top of a small but cosy shopping centre which was so convenient! There were all sorts of restaurants, cafés, and even a cinema and a supermarket. Never had to leave the hotel to get anything.
Our stay at Traveler Hostel in San Gil was fantastic! The double room provided a cozy and comfortable retreat for one night, while the Chalet offered a unique and charming experience on the second night. The hostel's atmosphere was lively, staff friendly, and amenities top-notch. A perfect blend of comfort and adventure – highly recommend for an unforgettable stay! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Cute little hotel up on a hill and just out of town. The staff were wonderful, able to check in early and leave our bags late. The breakfast (eggs, bread rolls, arepa, jam, butter, juice and coffee) was amazing and the staff tried very hard to get everything right even with the language barrier. rooms were clean and bathrooms near pool and property cleaned regularly.
The staff were brilliant! Very accommodating as we had to change the dates of our stay twice due to sickness. The staff were also great with recommendations for activities and places to go around San Gil. The hostel is basic but extremely clean and has a really nice outdoor area. Good location too. Definitely would recommend.
The location close to the square and right across the street from the church was great, the open courtyard in the hotel was really nice, but our hostess, Rosalba, really made it a great experience. I ended up getting a little sick and she really went above and beyond to help out, I can’t say enough about the service.
The team working there is very nice, Diego, MarFe, Marie, Laura. The hostel is clean and comfortable, room is big. You can arrange for your extreme sport activities directly with the hostel. Diego is a wealth of information. I enjoyed my stay. When I visit San Gil again, I'll stay at THIS IS COLOMBIA HOSTEL again.
This is an amazing place that makes you feel at home and at the best vacation place ever. There is not a better place to stay in San Gil. An absolutely magic experience.

I think the best thing in this hostel is the staff. Every single one of them is super nice, they did everything we asked them always with a smile.
Everything was clean all the time. The hostal was very central and beside good resturants.
The staf was extremely welcoming, pleasant, good. Beautiful hotel interior, excellent breakfast, even were provided with great sandwiches to go, which turned out a super gift as nothing good was available on the long bus ride
La Casona was a calm and inviting hostel in the centre of San Gil, with plenty of space to relax. I appreciated being able to book activities through the hostel and Juan was very helpful with everything I asked.
Mauricio was an amazing host! So helpful and he knows the local area extremely well. We had a lovely long stay at his hostel and would highly recommend it to those visiting San Gil!
