I recently stayed at Hotel Makao in Palomino with my full family, including my 2-year-old nephew, and had a generally pleasant experience. The hotel's location is fantastic, offering amazing beach access and chill vibes that made our stay truly relaxing.

Their exceptional service truly stood out and made a significant positive impact on our visit, especially in accommodating our young nephew's needs.

Absolutely everything. I won’t go into much detail right now, but everything about the hotel was simply delightful. Food, accommodations, location, staff, and even the atmosphere of the place. Who I believe to be the manager, even went as far to personally greet every guest and go out of his way to make sure everyone feels comfortable and accommodated. The two nights my family spent there was an extremely memorable experience, and it is safe to say that La Jarorá is one of, if not the best hotel/resort I’ve ever had the pleasure of staying in.

Casa colibri was my travel partner and my home for 13 days in Palomino and we are digital nomads and working for most of it. Most of the town has bad internet. We asked for desks to be put in the rooms and we got it. There isn’t really anywhere else in the area that has such solid internet and generator for when the electricity goes out. Power went out in the town mid meeting but there is a 30 minute battery back up for internet so it didn’t effect the meeting. The internet is so fast can watch movies or shows on your laptop. The rooms are modest but fulfilled all our needs. Just know there isn’t blankets, just sheets. Rooms are cleaned regularly too which is really helpful. Our favorite part of our stay is the friendly owner who was a perfect Palomino resource and also very kind and fun. The free breakfast is legendary and we loved the affordable lunch too.

Nice 6 cabañas at the beach within palm trees. Long beach to walk and watch the sunrises and sunsets.
Restaurant opened from 7 am till 9 pm with the last order at 8 pm. The food is really tasty. They have the best colombian cook and other helping ladies.
Outside bathroom was a nice experience.
Communication with the reception lady via WhatsApp and ordering food via WhatsApp so all is on time.
We would stay again without any hesitation.

Palomino has become a place where foreigners go to have fun with drugs, alcohol and sex. The hotels are owned by foreigners who do not know the balance and good treatment with nature, I think it is a disturbing tourism for the communities and nature... Lots of noise in the surroundings

Palomino has a reputation for a relaxed place and lifestyle. This is not entirely true as most of the beachfront is built up with fenced off resorts. The quality of the food and cocktails is generally low to average at best. There are nice people, too, of course, but there is very few backpacking/hippie style going on.

This is a great town for beach vibes , good local restaurants and a bit of night life. There are lots of travelers but it isn't too touristy. Still an easy-going beach town. Go now before more tourists find it!
A float down the (shallow) river makes for a fun day and leave some time for some cervezas on the public beach at the end. If you take a motorbike to the trailhead, be prepared to hang on tight and ask for a helmet - health and safety doesn't seem to be a thing here!
Buses are easy to catch on the main road and tuk-tuks/motorbikes can be hired for getting around town, although nothing is too far to walk.
Looking forward to a return to Palomino!

Lovely beach, great for a walk and surfing during our visit in January. Not sure about other times of the year. Plenty of beach front properties offering food and drinks. The town streets are not tarmac, some muddy patches during our stay, no pavement beyond the first block, if you don't use a tuk tuk or motorbike on arrival to your hostel, you are carrying your bag, no wheelie suitcases!! No parking either, if you are driving, check where you can park. Probably a torch in some areas after dark, definitely along areas of the beach, would help and although we stayed away from main town would imagine it gets very lively after dark!
Sorry, but personally, there are too many dogs begging for food, most didn't look starving, think the restaurants may feed them, but I don't like dogs begging at the table. Seems throught South America, its a problem, but really noticed it here, especially with a dog rescue nearby.
This place is amazing! I ended up staying nearly a week because i loved it so much.
The place looks a bit like a resort, but i paid less for my own room than what others paid for a dormbed in Palomino. Such good value for money!
The place is outside the hustle and bustle of Palomino and therefore it's quiet and relaxed. Supergood place to chill and unwind.

The staff here were incredible and so helpful, I booked for 3 nights and stayed 3 weeks! I loved that it wasn’t in the city, the private beach is nicer than the main beach in palomino, and the river was ideal for a cool down every day. The family dinner of 18k was always delicious and I loved the breakfast too! The hostel is eager to organize any tours you want and also provide cultural activities too (crocheting with ladies from an indigenous group, and a tour of the mangroves)
Breakfast was delicious - a choice of 4 or 5 items - European/colombian fusion! Freshly prepared and delicious. Fresh fruit, juices, tea, coffee. Lovely!!
The spa was also amazing quality - European prices - but amazing quality. Recommend a hot stone massage (especially if you’ve done The Lost City Hike and feel a little stiff). It’s a 5 minute walk to the beach and 10 to the village. Highly recommend the hotel.
Makao Beach Hotel is in a great location. Just a few meters from the sea. You can hear the waves 24/7. Its a very relaxing experience for those looking to scape from the concrete jungle. The meals they prepare are quite nice and prices are fair. All the staff is very friendly, especially Luis at the counter, he is always willing to help you in everything you need.
IThe hotel is fantastic, the owner Herman went above and beyond to help us out and insure we had a fantastic time. He speaks perfect English and is just such a nice guy. The pool is refreshing and the coffee and breakfast were delightful as well. I am on my way to Palomino again as I write this and hoping to stay there again. Highly recommend
If you would like to have a qiute place with a private beach - you should choose Hukumeizi Hotel.
Hotel is outside the city, so there is no problem with too much tourists. If you would like go to the city you can go through the beach or choose a taxi. Place looks like a paradise.

Brilliant location, out of the main touristy noisy area but very close to the beach and to the shops. Kitchen was very nice, the vibe in the hostel is very laid back, not a party hostel, the main area is full of hammocks with people just chilling out. The location and vibe is amazing - perfect if you're looking for a beautiful beach bungalow to disconnect. The hotel is also used for weddings, and the grounds are beautiful. You can have breakfast and lunch on the beach, and dinner under a large and beautifully lit tree.

This place is perfect. The huts are beautiful and you’re on your own private beach. This whole stretch of beach is cut off from Palomino by river mouth and is empty and also much more beautiful. Just take a tuk tuk into town for 15k, it’s so worth it.
Breakfast was really good. The hostel is only 5 min away from the beach. The staff was amazing and they made me feel like I was staying at a friend's house. Totally recommended. I will definitely go back next time I visit Palomino.

Casa Coraje is a true gem in Palomino. Think your favorite eco resort in Tulum but in a spot in the world that is so much more. Right on the beach and the best staff. We had a perfect stay.
