The trip is too long, you go with a fast boat that is not comfortable at all. High speed, jumping the waves, it gave me a headache once we arraigned to Cartagena from isla grande.
I think the island is not worth it, I recommend instead a full day excursion to baru from Cartagena.

Loved the quiet and elegant boutique hotel vibe.
Loved the quiet and elegant boutique hotel vibe. The hotel was full of really lovely interesting guests and the staff were really welcoming and attentive.
We loved our stay there as quiet interlude to the fast pace of Cartagena.
If you're looking for party vibe then Coralina is not for you (head to Bora Bora). If you're looking for beautiful island shabby-chic luxury then Coralina is perfect.

Incredible place to rest, away from the tiresome sellspeople that crowd Playa Blanca and Barú offering from massages to wrist bands. Here you can actually REST, and do whatever you want to do, snorkeling, kayaking reading. Even work, if you must, the wifi connection was great at the hostel we stayed.
You can easily walk the island or do a round trip vía Kayak (3-4 hours aprox). The Mangle are really beautiful and that's a nice tour to have. The little village of Orika (1500 ppl) is really nice and peple are very kind with tourists. There were 2-3 restaurants that I can remember, but none looked tempting so we stayed with the Hostel restaurant for health sake. No need to improvise. :)
It's a small island perfect for introspection and sea sports as mentioned before. I'd say it's a mandatory visit if you go to Cartagena (hey, you can even sacrifice Playa Blanca without loosing too much, if you must prune a few days of your stay), but definitely try to visit the island. We travelled with 3 kids aged 16, 13 and 12. and 3 nights at the hostel hit the spot for them. More would have been a little too much for them.

This is the furthest island and honestly there’s nothing to do here. Specifically at this hotel, there was only two lawn chairs where the sun actually reached and the rest were always in the shade. And the two that were in sun were always occupied. The one time we did get to sit in them, the dock it’s on was not sturdy or secure. In fact the board under the chair broke as my friend was laying in it!! And the chair leg went towards the water.
The hotel itself had no beach so you had to walk 20 minutes to get there and it was not easily accessible by any means. All the other beaches were private and you had to pay for.
They offered theee excursions - I can’t speak to one. But the other two were scams.

It felt really remote but with everything you needed (be prepared, no A/C.
The Caipirinhas are FANTASTIC how they make them.
Kayaks pull up with cocktails from outside vendors. Adds a fun element.
Most nights they offered something to do after the day trippers left.

This is an island that is completely run for the profits of...
This is an island that is completely run for the profits of the beach resorts who cater almost exclusively to the day-trippers from Cartagena. This means that if you are not in one of these resorts your access to much of the island is restricted. For the most part, there are no evident access points into the interior of the island from these resorts and we found ourselves entering through service entrances to try to get the coast, or a bar and were often found trespassing. Some of these resorts are more welcoming than others and some charge an entry fee for non-guests. However, many of these resorts don't seem to have overnight guests and, therefore, shut up shop after 4pm so there is little-to-no evening activity on the island (and no street lights, so make sure to have a torch with you)
There are some fun and interesting activities to do on the island - enough to fill a day, but the limited access when staying there meant that we were very ready to leave after two nights.
The location was "off the grid". The staff were friendly and excellent and never hustled for tips. (we especially loved Alvaro and Dixon). The breakfast were huge and offered plenty of choice. The rooms were fairy basic but perfectly comfortable. We loved the diverse mix of visitors coming to this hotel and got to know many of them. There are several activities you can find if you ask around - like a trip to a nearby bird sanctuary island. I loved the artisan coffee at the reception. It costs extra, but it's worth it.
We stayed in the "Mojito" room, the view was absolutely amazing from the front porch! You could snorkel just by swimming out from the hotel. We had a cold water jacuzzi on our back porch which was nice but there were issues using it. There was one staff member, Jose, who genuinely seemed to care about helping us during our stay. Jose even came to our room after 9 pm when the water stopped working and was able to resolve it.
The hotel grounds are lovely and the family and caretakers were always ready to help us with any needs. The food was good, and the parrot was a fun companion! We decided to stay 2 extra nights and were upgraded into a lovely room (Casa Grande) with hammocks on the terrace. The location is a short walk from several beaches (Playita, Playa LIbre, Playa Tranquila), but be prepared for a hot and dusty walk home.
The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Although we didnt speak Spanish and many of the staff didn't speak English, they always did their best to help us with what we needed.
There are amazing diving and snorkeling opportunities nearby and trips are run by Diving Planet, based out of the resort.
The pool and beach right at the resort were amazing, just what we needed to relax and be by the water.
- we were the first ones dropped off on the boat from Cartagena
- Room was very spacious
- Decent beach at hotel
- Fried fish lunch was delicious (not included)
- Breakfast also tasty (included)
- good location kinda in the middle of the island
Tips: down load the app All Trails and download the map for the island ahead of time. Google maps doesn’t show the walking trails or directions
Everything was exeptional - the food, service (best we’ve experienced), cleanliness, location, outdoor areas and rooms. We were greeted with a glass of cold white wine, and served with free desserts for every meal. The staff helped us with all our needs. As the host, Pierre, said himself, everything at Hotel Coralina Island is made with love - and it is very noticeable!
A very quaint and lovely place to stay at when visiting Isla Grande. We loved how quiet it was but also how easy it was to reach the main beaches we wanted to visit. The staff is really kind and accommodating. The lodge is simple but very nice and clean and it gave us this authentic island feel we were looking for. We definitely recommend it.
They have the best beaches at Isla Grande with a nice sunrise every morning. There enough places with sun and also with shadow.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I can warmly recommend you to talk to David. He pays most attention to all guests speak perfect English and he arranged a very nice tour for us.
Nice and friendly family that is owning the hotel. They organized a special transport back to Cartagena for us because we needed to leave earlier than the normal tourist transport.
The food in the hostel was okay, on the second evening we tried another hostel nearby for dinner which was of similar quality.
Edgar was really helpful and all the staff tried to accommodate our every request. The place is serene, quiet and food was delicious every night. It's also conveniently located from nearby playas. Toilets are very spacious and were clean all the time. We highly recommend Eco Hotel Bosque Encantado :)
We loved Rosario eco hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful. The view from our room was amazing. My girls had a great time. We enjoyed the delicious coffee. Food was good. Loved the fresh fruit and sea food. We will definitely recommend this hotel
The Island is very nice, especially the close contact with the locals. Food is very tasty. Very well organized wrt beach beds and the division between day-trip tourists and guests staying at the hotel. A good variety of activities to chooce from.
We loved the Eco-Hotel! The location was stunning! The staff were topnotch. We loved the mission of Centro Ubunto and really felt welcomed and engaged with the community there. The EcoTours were great and the food was so fresh.
it is nice that it is an eco-hotel: we think it was cosy that there was not always electricity, you could not charge your phone in the rooms etc. the hotel lives up to the eco experience!
Very friendly staff, especially the hotel manager, he makes almost everything possible! Lunch menu is very nice. Rooms are pretty, room view is excellent and location as well.
