If I were smarter, I would not share this Little Gem". This is one terrific Gasthof in one lovely village. One hundred meters 'off the beaten path' lies this early hotel. A smart traveller would keep this Jewel hidden!
The owner and his lovely wife could not have made our stay any better. Our room was well appointed, and quiet. Immediately upon arriving, hotel staff carried our bags to our room, checked us in, gave us Visitor Cards providing free access to cablecars, museums, historic building, and the fabulous Burg Maunterndorf Castle, five minutes on foot. Parking was available directly outside our hotel.
The breakfast buffet was one of the best we found in our five weeks in Austria and Germany, and our eggs were cooked to order. Dinner was in a cosy dining room, with an excellent menu. Service was prompt, and attentive. We dined several evening, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and wonderful local specialties. The desserts were even better!
Hotel Steffner-Wallner is one place we will return to.

Great comfy rooms , beautiful views, super clean, everything you forgot home + more is in your bathroom package. Coffee/tea maker, some free cool beverages, daily chocolate "service".
Skiing? Put on your pre warmed ski boots, grab skis open the door of the ski room and you are 10m from the gate to a ski lift of the wonderful Obertauern resort. Tickets? They sell them at the reception.
Wellnesing? Lovely pool, 3 saunas, salt cave, outer jacuzzi (imagine snow flakes falling on your head while sitting in the hot tub. Magical.). Choice of tea, cold beverages for free. Fruits and nuts too. Fitness, massages, ..
Kids? Superb. Playstation room, animation programs for the youngest, family activities room (billiard, table tennis, calceto. Family hours in the wellness center including saunas.
Enjoy fine dining? Superb culinary 4 course menu paired with very good salads and cheese buffets. But what strikes your eyes and tongue is the heavenly deserts. And by the way, breakfast is equally superb.
And free afternoon brunch.
Don't count on loosing weight.

Friendly staff. The hotel is right near a sledding hill and the hotel has sleds for the guests to use which was an unexpected treat. There is a kids playroom in the basement which was great for our 2 year old
It is a very beautiful and quiet town. Beautiful views of the mountains. Ideal for hiking. There is a very nice river that runs parallel to the main road. Maybe there should be an ice cream parlor in the summer. That would be nice.
Fantastic quality and taste of the interior design. Big rooms exceeded our expectations. There are comfortable beds, good shower, well equipped kitchen - we liked everything a lot. Very clean.
Nice quiet location within 8 minutes from Obertauern slops and 6 min from Mauterndorf supermarket but you definitely need a car here.
Check in and the keys pick up was at the hotel reception in Obertauern. It was quick and friendly.
We were really satisfied with the hotel, it was calm and quiet there, although the hotel was placed directly near the main street. Room was clean, and we had a nice view from the balcony. The pool in the hotel was clean and we enjoyed there time alone. Breakfasts were basic but fully OK. For dinner they had traditional meels in restaurant, so we tried every evening something else. The value for money was really good :-)
Given the proximity of the ski resort that made us stay in Tweng, the location is great. Breakfast of average offer, plentiful in quantity. The room where the food is served is extremely cramped, which creates a big crowd and the guests literally push each other.
The best thing about our stay was the fact the room was very clean.
The hotel is located at the outskirts of a beautiful village in the Alps. We could hear the calming sound of the stream in our room. Nice trails nearby for a short walk with dog. Good breakfast. Friendly staff willing to give advice on how to spend time in the area.
The hotel room was nice, the bed was very good and comfy. Rooms are clean. Hotel is at good location when travelling. Austrian mountain view is also fantastic. Good surprise was also horses next to hotel in the morning.
